Report a Corncrake

Key Difference

  • If you see the bird clearly walking in the open, it is almost certainly a pheasant.

  • If you hear a repetitive mechanical “crex-crex” call coming from tall grass at night and cannot see the bird, it may be a corncrake.

Help Us Record Corncrakes

  • If you think you have heard a corncrake, please use the recording/reporting feature on our interactive map or contact the project team.

  • Your reports help us protect breeding areas and support conservation work.

It would be most helpful if you could add co-ordinates to the form by following these instructions:

  • On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app or go to maps.google.com

  • Touch and hold an area of the map that isn’t labelled. You'll see a red pin appear.

  • You'll see the coordinates in the search box at the top.

  • Please copy and paste the co-ordinates into the relevant box below
